Succession Concert

Pretty much all of that flew right over Tochi’s head, as she stared blankly at Miyuki. She had followed the other stuff, but this was just completely… out there, and bizarre and-

Miyuki’s shriek brought her back to reality once more, and Tochi glanced up at the clock as well, realizing that her friend was right- she was going to be late to her own succession concert if they kept this up!

“Gah! Um… let’s go, then- we’ll catch a ride with Ritsuko-sensei!” Tochi exclaimed, making a grab for Miyuki’s hand to pull her along. As much as she feared another round of Ritsuko breaking probably every traffic law known to man, it was the only way they’d get to the theater on time.

Miyuki didn’t notice the blank look on Tochi’s face; but then, Miyuki usually had a blank expression on her own face anyhow whenever someone started talking for longer than she could manage. Or about something that confused her. Actually, she usually had a blank expression on her face anyhow, as she most likely had no idea what was going on due to her airheadedness.

“Oh, Ritsuko-sensei’s got a car?” Miyuki asked, blinking as she was pulled along. “I can drive too, you know? I don’t have a car, but I do have my license…Although I can’t say I drive that well.” It was the first thing that Miyuki had done when she had turned 16 - get her driver’s license. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have had any way to get around the city, living alone and all. Her driving wasn’t the most reliable, but it was about what you would expect from a 19 year old teenage girl.

“A-ah, you’re right! But won’t that bus have left by now…?” She shook her head, grinning. “Doesn’t matter! I can run there if I have to, I have confidence in my stamina at least!” She started stretching, as though she was really serious about it; which, knowing Miyuki, she probably was.

“As for the radiance thing…I think you are…In your own way,” Miyuki said, a little absentmindedly with the airheaded expression she got on her face sometimes. It was the look that she got when she struggled to find a way to say something - even though her intelligence wasn’t the highest for a girl her age, she could still say good things at times. “Sometimes…It feels like the room gets a little brighter when you’re in it, y’know? It’s the same with the other successors. I’m not talking about how I light up the room personality-wise, that ain’t really anything special. It’s just high energy and lots of bouncin’ around. But for you, just being there, you kinda gave off this aura…You’re giving it off even now! It’s your radiance, and whether you know it or not, ya got it if that kirara is any indication. It’s not only that though, it’s your heart as an idol.” She placed a hand on her chest, and playfully poked Tochi on the cheek. “Your idol heart developed first out of all of us. I feel that you were chosen because of that. So don’t worry about it, hmm? You might not feel your own radiance all the time, but I’m sure the fans do!”

… ‘Idol heart’, huh? It sounded like some sort of magical girl trait, and to be honest, Tochi wasn’t any more convinced than before, but Miyuki seemed so insistent on there being something that set her apart from the rest of the 78th generation, and that her kirara was connected to it as well, that she was half-inclined to believe her.

After all, didn’t they say that the more absurd something sounded, that the more plausible it was that it was true?

“Um… okay, I guess I get what you mean,” Tochi finally said, trying to sort out Miyuki’s words. She was no Center Nova, but Miyuki seemed to believe that Tochi was radiant regardless, so if Miyuki believed it, then…!

“Well, you don’t have to take my word for it!” Miyuki said, poking her tongue out and hitting herself on the head. “After all, I’m not exactly the brightest cookie! But I think that if you asked your fans, or anyone else who had spent a lot of time with you…They’d say the same. It’s like…What was it that my aunt used to say?”

Miyuki scratched her head, trying to remember. “Something like…‘Laser beam from your eyes!’, meaning that we had to connect with our fans when performing, and meet every single one of their eyes. 'Power from your hands!’…Not quite sure what that means, but maybe related to handshake events? And then 'Aura from your nostrils!’ That last one was the one that most of the members struggled with, I think…They didn’t emanate that idol aura, they didn’t breath it. My aunt was one of those, which is why she never became a successor.” She pointed at Tochi. “The way you did! You’ve definitely got that idol breath!” Ignoring how stupid that may have sounded, she looked up at the clock again, and shrieked.

“Ah, we’re really going to be late if we keep talking!”

“But I’m not really radiant….?” Tochi started to protest, looking highly confused at that remark. Chieri was radiant (she was their Center Nova!). Miyuki was… radiant in a way if personality counted. The 77th generationdefinitely had their thing going on. Tochi was just Tochi, or rather, she was Tochi but also Karen, though she was still a little confused as to how to refer to herself now.

When Miyuki suddenly remembered the concert, though, Tochi dropped the subject, and watched as the older girl ran about the dorm room, panicking. When she finally settled down, Tochi blinked, before speaking again.

“Um… I got a ride back from Ritsuko-sensei, actually!” she said, as much as she dreaded riding back to the theater with the former successor, “If you hurry, you could still probably get on the bus with the others that was going to the theater!”

Succession Concert

karenthefourth:

Although she was supposed to be at the theater waiting for her debut as Karen the 4th, Tochi had begged a staff member to take her back to the dorms ‘really quick, promise!’ to retrieve something from her room- a hairclip- that she insisted she couldn’t perform without. After a bit of arguing and insisting that she could not allow someone else to get it for her, Ritsuko-sensei had offered to drive her back, something Tochi now regretted, as Ritsuko-sensei… didn’t know how to drive.

Once back at the dorms, Tochi had been warned that she would have to make it quick- the successors and understudies were already headed for the bus to take them to the theater- and she couldn’t hang around and chat with the others until later, either.  Therefore, Tochi was surprised to see Miyuki burst into the room, and nearly dropped the little box of star-shaped jewelry she was going to bring with her to wear for her concert.

“Ack! Miyuki!? I thought everyone was supposed to be headed for the theater!” she exclaimed, hoping that neither of them would get in trouble for this. Still, she didn’t make any effort to shoo Miyuki away before they were spotted, and as her soon-to-be former roommate rambled away, Tochi couldn’t help but look a little upset when the taller girl talked about how they all knew she’d be the first to succeed due to being the only 78th gen girl with a kirara.

“But… it’s not like Pico Mari does anything special,” Tochi finally said, glancing at the star-shaped creature, “It just followed me home one day last summer when I went exploring some of the other islands with a friend during summer vacation- I mean, I didn’t even think it was mine at first! And it always gets me into trouble, and I tried really hard to keep it a secret…”

“I always thought you or Seika would be the first to succeed.”

Miyuki laughed, waving it off. “Me, first to succeed? No way, no way…My rise to the top will be steady and unrushed! I mean, if I’m gonna get there eventually anyway, there’s no rush.” Once again, that baseless confidence that had become a bit of a trademark for her during her first few weeks in the dorms…As well as the random subconscious dancing and humming, which she had put quite the effort in to stopping. “And I didn’t mean that in a bad way or anything! What I’m saying is more like…” The redhead struggled to put her thoughts into words. “Well, you know how kirara tend to follow those who are the most radiant, right? Like the previous Acchan was literally covered head to toe with them. It makes sense if you succeed first since you have a kirara following you, while the rest of us don’t. It kinda means that you have more radiance than the rest of us girls, y'know?” She shrugged and grinned. “Well, don’t worry about that! Just focus on continuing to shine brighter, or I’m gonna pass you in no time!”

Miyuki blinked. “Wait a second, I’m supposed to be at the theatre?” Airheaded as ever, she took a while to comprehend what Tochi was saying, then gasped. “Oh my god, the concert is today! I knew something was off when I couldn’t find anyone in the dorms!” She rushed over to the closet, fumbled through it as though looking for something to wear, then frowned and slammed it shut. “Did someone take my costu-” She blinked again, remembering. “Oh yeah, the costumes are usually given to us for concerts!” She ran to the door in a hurry, panic mode fully on, then stopped again just as suddenly as she realised something, once again very late.

“Wait a second,” she said as she paused, thinking about something. For a moment, it seemed as though she had figured out that Tochi had had a ride to the dorms, but then…“I can’t get to the concert before you! It’d be bad if you were the latest one!” She sat down on the bed and folded her arms, a stupidly smug expression on her face. “So, I’ll be the latest, so you won’t look as bad as the successor!”

Succession Concert

karenthefourth:

With the creepy cave of doom and her run-in with the Illuminati- sorry, her succession ceremony- behind her, Tochi, or rather, Iwata Karen the 4th (… that was still weird) could finally relax, and stop worrying about ‘ritual sacrifices’ and ‘alien gods’ and all the other conspiracy theories her mind had raced through while down underground. Of course, it wasn’t over just yet- she was now a successor (seriously? Tochi had honestly expected Seika or Miyuki to succeed before her, given their declarations of aiming to be the fastest to succeed), annnnd…

She was about to put on her own concert, to announce it to everyone. It was more than a little weird how everyone but her knew about it (she disliked being kept out of the loop), and Tochi wondered just how far in advance it was known that she would be succeeding. Actually, the more she thought about it, the more her thoughts drifted back towards conspiracy theories, and she was right back at square one.

And you don’t just joke about cults! Tochi thought to herself with an indignant huff, thinking about what Tsubasa-san had told her while handing her off to another staff member. Was Tsubasa-san trying to give her a heart attack or something?

As she finished getting ready, she wondered how everyone would react to the news.

(ooc: setlist is here! although it was supposed to happen over the weekend ICly, I’m such a slowpoke and kept last-minute changing stuff either because I forgot someone or wanted to add another song (like how Karen recently got to sing Mushi no Ballad), etc…

edit: … Also not everyone I tagged is showing up when searching their tag)

Miyuki burst into the room in her usual manner - suddenly and with no regard for human safety. “Yo, Tochi! I heard you were gonna succeed!” She said excitedly, eyes sparkling. “I thought for sure that I was gonna be the first in our group to!” She laughed, apparently thinking nothing more of it. It was just her usual, baseless confidence, a trait that she had inherited from watching wayyyy too much of the original Mariko in old reruns of AKBingo! “But doesn’t matter, doesn’t matter! What’s important is that you’re succeeding!”

She jumped up and down around the room like an excitable bunny, never staying still for even a second…Even though that was how she usually was anyway, it seemed she was in even higher spirits today than usual, and that was saying something. “So who are you gonna succeed? Oh wait, that’s a secret till the end of the concert, isn’t it! Isn’t this exciting? I can’t wait! Now I’ll know what to expect when I succeed!” She suddenly fell down on the bed, face contorted in fake pain, raising a hand to her forehead and then quickly lifting it away as though it was burning hot to touch. She sat up again and poked her tongue out at Tochi. “Well somehow, we kinda knew you’d be the first to succeed, y'know? Even in the back of our minds. After all, you’re the only one with a kirara!”

Miyuki barreled into the room that she shared with Seika and Tochi, airheaded and full of energy as ever. Being the moron that she was, she didn’t notice at all that Tochi was feeling sick, and immediately flopped onto her roommate’s bed, acting ten years younger than her actual age.

“Heya, Tochi-chan!” Miyuki giggled. She was in high spirits today - it was a day off, and she was hoping that she could finally have some time to spend with either Tochi or Seika, something that was rare in between all the lessons and concert preparations they went through. She had noticed that Tochi had been up all night, playing some sort of game on one of those reaaaaaaally old Playstation consoles, the type that people still used when humans lived on Earth. Frankly, Miyuki was surprised that the thing still ran. Nevertheless, she put the all-nighter to the reason for Tochi’s pale complexion…Or so she thought, until she tugged at Tochi’s hand to pull her out of bed and realised, alarmingly, that it was red-hot. She yelped and quickly put a hand to Tochi’s head, confirming with dread that the other girl had an extremely high fever, and it seemed to only be getting higher. “T-Tochi-chan! You have a really high fever! We need to go see a doctor!”

“Wha? No way! It’ll probably blow over soon enough,” Tochi quickly said; seeing a doctor meant confessing she stayed up all night playing games, which aside from the Retrostar performance, was probably the reason she ended up the way she was now.

“It’s probably just some stupid bug I picked up from the performance on Retrostar,” she told Miyuki, “Seriously- is it flu season or something? This sucks.”

“No way, I’m not believing that! This is serious!” Miyuki said, eyes wide in panic. “We’ve got to see Tsubasa, at least! She’ll know what to do!” Still in full-panic mode over the extremely high fever and burning skin of her friend, she literally picked Tochi up from the bed, an action that surprised even herself. The other girl felt as light as a feather…Or it was just the adrenaline rush from the panic. She realised that she had two choices: one, to carry her all the way to Tsubasa and hope that she didn’t drop Tochi on the way if her adrenaline rush ran out, or two, put the other girl back down and call Tsubasa over.

In her panic-mode, she of course chose the first option, which was clearly the stupid one of the two.

With the other girl in a precarious position in her arms, she flew over to the door, kicked it open with her foot, and rushed down the hallway, past a few other confused kenkyuusei and straight to the stairs, which anyone could see was a bad idea the way that she was carrying Tochi. Thankfully, she came to her senses just then and stopped running, putting Tochi down on the floor as gently as she could and kneeling down, panting. Worried, she put a hand to the other girl’s head, finding with alarm that she still had an extremely high fever.

Miyuki had to stifle a giggle as Tochi went and rambled on about her hairclip. Among the girls in the changing room, Miyuki was one of the only ones who had finished much earlier than anyone else - but rather than it being the speed and experience of a veteran, it was more the carelessness and ‘whatever’ attitude that Miyuki had regarding makeup and her general outfit. As long as she could dance in it and it looked cute on her, she didn’t mind what she was wearing, much less what matched what.

She stood up on tiptoes and looked over the heads of the other girls - an easy job for her, even on flat footing - looking for said hairclip. She assumed it was the type that Tochi always wore, and that Miyuki was familiar with seeing on the other girl; however, Miyuki’s memory was fuzzy in that department and the huge array of hairclips scattered about the room certainly didn’t help her cause. She sighed. “What colour was it? I can help you look for it. Make my freakish height actually be useful for once.”

“Um… it has a star, and it matches my outfit!” Tochi said, as she watched Miyuki. Being tall sure must be nice, she thought, compared to being shorter than even Takamina. She was a year older than Sonata, too, but while Sonata might have grown an inch or two, Tochi… remained the same height.

It really sucked sometimes.

“Do you see it?” she asked, as Pico Mari floated over Miyuki’s head, “I can’t go on stage without it- I just can’t! Everyone will laugh at me…”

… Okay, that last part wasn’t true, but Tochi was still a teenager, and teenagers were prone to dramatics. Which Tochi was pretty good at when it came to the silliest things. Some girls might make a big deal out of dating or clothes, Tochi made a big deal out of hairclips and manga.

Miyuki appraised Tochi, checking the style and colour of her outfit. She tilted her head to one side, and nodded to herself. Even if style and fashion wasn’t exactly her best point, she was sure she could at least find a hairclip that matched Tochi’s outfit…She hoped. She craned her neck again, easily looking over all the other girls. In her mind, just like Tochi, she was also having complexes about her own height, although she had no idea that Tochi was worried about her height.

‘Dammit, it must be nice being short and cute like Tochi. I scare off all the guys with my height…I mean, who wants to date a girl who’s half a head taller than them?' She sighed internally. 'And I’m still growing too, by the looks of it…Why couldn’t I have just stopped at 170 or something? That’s already taller than the original Mariko…Instead, I’m a freakish giant at almost 6 feet now. Jeez.’

It really sucked sometimes.

“Ah!” Miyuki gasped, breaking out of her internal grumbling about her height. “I…I think I see it! Hold on!” She waded through the crowd of girls in front of the mirrors, an easy job for her considering her height and her weight, which she would never admit the real value of. Grabbing said star-shaped hairclip from the table, she headed back to where Tochi was and handed it to her. “Is this it?” It was a silvery-white one, the type that Miyuki always say Tochi wearing. She prayed she had gotten the right one - shoving all those other girls aside hadn’t been a memorable experience with all the looks she got.

Succession

shimotsukitochi:

As time moved on, Tochi began to realize she didn’t really have a gameplan in mind as to what she wanted to do as a member of 00, let alone who she wanted to succeed. It was true that she knew now that not everyone went into 00 knowing who they wanted to succeed, and it was true that she probably wouldn’t succeed anyone for a good long while.

Well, that was alright, she supposed. She wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon, despite how many times Tochi had been convinced she was going to get kicked out. That had to count for something, right?

As it was, because of this, she didn’t really think much of it when she woke up feeling a little… off, other than that apparently, she had picked up something from when they were performing on Retrostar. She rarely got sick, outside of the occasional seasonal cold, though certainly, Tochi would always try to fake being sick to get out of going to school, especially if she had a large project due that she hadn’t finished yet. Unfortunately, her sister was too smart to be fooled, but it was always worth a shot.

Maybe she also shouldn’t have stayed up all night trying to finish a speedrun of Mana Khemia, but she wanted to try finishing Pamela’s route in one go and clear the bonus dungeon. Well, at least it was a day off- Ritsuko-sensei was a fairly lenient person, Tochi knew by now, but she doubted Tsubasa-san would be that understanding.

Heaving a sigh, Tochi hoped that whatever it was that she had picked up would go away soon… and that maybe they should turn away fans who might be contagious from future concerts.

Miyuki barreled into the room that she shared with Seika and Tochi, airheaded and full of energy as ever. Being the moron that she was, she didn’t notice at all that Seika was feeling sick, and immediately flopped onto her roommate’s bed, acting ten years younger than her actual age.

Concert on Retrostar

Miyuki, naturally being the tallest girl in the room once more as far as she could see, had no problems looking over the heads of the other girls to put on her makeup in the mirror. It wasn’t exactly a hard task for her, due to Miyuki being the type who disliked makeup and tried to put on the bare minimum in order to make the staff happy. Therefore, it took her about all of five minutes to finish up and move aside. She sighed. Being tall had it’s advantages, but she still didn’t like standing out so much. She had had a little growth spurt during her time with 0048, and she towered over the other girls now at almost six feet, which she had an uncomfortable feeling was very unnatural for a girl, no matter how the others tried to tell her that her height was a good thing.

She sat down in the corner of the room, going over the moves to Oogoe Diamond in her head as she hummed the tune. It was the one song she was centre in, and that in itself had her excited beyond measure - it was well known that Jurina had broken out into the spotlight and established herself through Oogoe Diamond, and Miyuki, wanting to succeed Jurina, was determined to do the same. Her concentration was broken by a familiar flicker in the corner of her eye, which turned out to be, as she suspected, Tochi’s kirara. Expectantly, the owner closely followed, as though frantically searching for something. Miyuki smiled to herself - she had noticed Tochi’s efforts in trying to get a place in front of the mirrors to herself. They had been amusing, to say the least. Now that she had finally managed to secure a position, she appeared to have lost something. Miyuki blinked as Tochi turned around and shouted at her.

“W-what can’t you find?” Miyuki asked, half-amused, half-worried about the frantic expression on Tochi’s face.

“My hairclip!” Tochi wailed, looking fairly devastated despite having plenty of extras, “I think I might have dropped it somewhere, but I don’t know where- and I can’t go out on stage without it!” she insisted.

“It matches my outfits- it’s part of the outfit, even,” she continued, “Performing without it will just throw everything all out of whack… It’s like, my charm point! My key feature!”

She might have been stretching that last part just a little. This wasn’t a video game, after all, though Tochi sometimes tended to think in visual novel and jrpg terms. Beside her, Pico Mari floated about uselessly in the air, as if to say ‘Don’t look at me- she’s crazy’.

Concert on Retrostar

shimotsukitochi:

They hadn’t even touched down yet, but Tochi was already excited; this would be their first live concert offworld, and the second time the 78th generation had performed on stage, so naturally, Tochi wanted to do her best. Still, she was disappointed about the whole ‘Hashire! Penguin’ thing, no matter how much Paruru tried assuring her that she’d get her chance eventually, that there was always the chance that she would be drafted to perform it next concert, etc etc…

As everyone else started getting ready, Tochi soon ran into a series of problems. The first was that there wasn’t any room for her at the mirrors to put on her makeup, as she had gotten there late enough to where everyone was already crowded around them. Being as short and unintimidating as she was, she couldn’t just shove her way invetween people, either, so…

Clearly, the best option was had been to try getting around them, in the hopes of getting a smallish corner of the mirror to herself. It had earned her some weird looks, and Tochi had nearly avoided the wrath of Myao again, but it server its purpose, and Tochi felt quite triumphant in her success. The next problem though involved her hairclip.

The star-shaped one. That was practically glued to her head with how often she wore it. Technically, she had more than one hairclip, as Tochi collected star-shaped jewelry like it was going out of style, but they all had their specific outfits to be coordinated with, and it would be downright sacrilege to wear another. Frantic, Tochi practically tore apart the dressing room like an idol possessed, Pico Mari the kirara acting as a sort of useless flashlight for the darker areas like under counters or whatnot. Finally, with a frustrated shriek, she turned to the closest person, as if they might know.

“I can’t find it!!” Tochi exclaimed, as if she expected them to know that ‘it’ referred to ‘my hairclip that I actually have a million of’.

Miyuki, naturally being the tallest girl in the room once more as far as she could see, had no problems looking over the heads of the other girls to put on her makeup in the mirror.
