On A Jog

“That’s the spirit!” Miyuki said approvingly. It was the exact same motto she would’ve used for how she went about with things, especially in sport - even if she was mocked about her height and ostracised because of her weird hair colour, she still tried her best…Even in team sports, where her teammates were more likely to trip her up than help her.

Miyuki stretched out on the grass, looking up at the blue sky while floating about in her memories. “I’ll start with something you probably wouldn’t expect - my hair. You see this blond streak at the front? I’ve never been able to get rid of it. My hair’s naturally red too, and whenever I dye it it’d just go back the next day. Combine that with my green eyes, and guess what the kids at my school called me?” She laughed softly. “Witch. Hair that couldn’t be dyed. Red hair, green eyes. Freakish height. Witch. If only I were really one - I could’ve turned them all into toads or something. But my school life was just the regular case of someone who was different being bullied and ostracised. I never really minded it, but because of it, I never truly had any real friends. There were boys in my sports clubs that I used to get along with very well, but they said hanging out with me was starting to become uncomfortable.” She closed her eyes. “Of course, this was after they had hit puberty and started noticing…Stuff.”

It was obvious what the boys had been noticing - Miyuki’s well-toned body through constant exercise and long legs due to her height were points of envy, even for the girls who mocked her about it. She sighed and let Seika take in the first part of her story, not wanting to overload her friend with too much information.

Seika sat quietly, letting Miyuki speak. She nodded when Miyuki stopped. “How silly of them. What business is your hair to them anyway?”

Really, her heart hurt from Miyuki’s words. She never understood how people could be so cruel, especially over something unimportant and petty! At the last comment, she rolled her eyes. “Boys have such a one track mind!”

“But really, I like your hair. Its kinda weird that it can’t be dyed, not that it matters - maybe its just going through a rebellious stage?” Seika laughed at the thought.

Miyuki smiled, a little forlornly. “Of course, my hair doesn’t get weird glances anymore. After all, everyone has crazy hair in 0048.” She laughed at that, but it still nagged at the back of her mind - why had she been bullied about it on Akibastar, of all places? Everyone loved 0048 here, but nonetheless, that didn’t stop the girls at school poking fun at her.

How she wished her hair could actually be coloured.

Miyuki shrugged, and giggled. “Perhaps it is…” She touched her hair, which she had tried her best to model after Jurina’s regardless of the strange colour. “Or maybe it just doesn’t want me to change.”

She sighed and looked across at Seika. “It gets a little…Depressing from here, by normal standards anyway. Do you still want to know?”
