Not just a regular fever…?

Miyuki stared with wonder at the kirara, marveling at how fantasy-like and unreal it all seemed. ‘So our succession is decided by the kirara…And to think that I always thought it was the management who dealt with it. I guess these little guys are more important than I thought.' A little nagging feeling tugged at the back of her mind, reminding her that she was yet to have her own kirara…But she brushed that away.

As her own face morphed into that of the original Jurina in the mirror, Miyuki gasped and reached a hand forward, as though wanting to touch it. 'I…I’ve finally reached her. I can literally almost touch her now…’

“She’s beautiful,” Miyuki murmured, eyes still on the mirror before tearing herself away from it as Tsubasa motioned for her to follow. She went with the blonde into a small shrine, and sat herself down respectfully before the other shrine maidens.

“So-Sold out?” Miyuki repeated, surprised. She had never imagined in her wildest dreams that she was popular enough yet to sell out a concert. “Alright, Tsubasa-san,” Miyuki said, her nervousness seemingly gone and having been replaced with her usual, cheeky tone. “Hit me with the duties and responsibilities.”

“Just listen carefully and repeat what we say. You’ll feel the change, if you haven’t already.”

Tsubasa spoke of AKB48, of the destruction of Earth and the the rebirth of the galaxy. Of 00’s goals, of succession, of graduating from being a kenkyuusei to a successor. She spoke of Sensei Sensei, the fight for freedom, the journey of finding yourself and your own path and the kirara, with the other maidens chiming in at the appropriate times.

Finally, Tsubasa led Miyuki, no, Jurina, over to the same mirror Mimori had seen. “The function is basically the same as the kirara - it confirms your soul. If you see Jurina, then you have been fully accepted as a successor.Go ahead and look - afterwards, we’ll head back up.”

Miyuki repeated after what Tsubasa said, carefully reciting each word and trying to imprint it into memory. As she spoke, she felt…Different, somehow. As though she was becoming someone else, being reborn in a sense. Her conscious whispered to her.

'From now on, your name is Matsui Jurina, not Takahashi Miyuki.’

Miyuki felt almost giddy as she was led towards the mirror, though from joy or from stress she didn’t quite know herself. She stared at the mirror long and hard, hoping and praying that it had accepted her.

After a few long, painful seconds where only her face showed, she saw it.

Jurina.

She almost collapsed with relief, but managed to prop herself up by sheer willpower. “I…I did it, Tsubasa-san.” Tears were streaked down her face. “I succeeded Jurina!”
