On A Jog

Miyuki giggled. “Tryin’ to get out of it already?” she asked teasingly. “Well, it really depends on how you run, of course. If you stop to take breaks every now and then, or if you slow down to a walk, you’re not really gonna get much more endurance than if you ran as far as you could without stopping, even if the distance is a little less than if you took breaks along the way.” She stopped as she realised she was rambling, and shrugged nonchalantly. “But yeah, it helps with your endurance, I guess.”

She laughed at Seika’s comment about running not being fun. To Miyuki who was a natural athlete, running was something enjoyable…Unfortunately, many of her friends disagreed and saw cross country day at school as the worst day of all. “You’ll get used to it if you do it every day! It might not be fun at the start, but as you improve you’ll find yourself enjoying it more.” She grinned. “Like I am. I love running, it calms me, and the breeze on my face always feels the best.”

Seika sighed dramatically, “If only I could!” She nodded as Miyuki explained things. “I see, I guess you’re right. Theres no point in doing things half heartedly~”

But the second part of the speech… “Well, if you say so..” She smiled slightly. “But I see what you mean. I don’t enjoy it yet, but the sights are nice, and its something different and almost refreshing. I’ll just have to keep trying and see how it turns out!”

Miyuki giggled. “That’s the spirit! Besides, running with a friend is so much less boring than running by yourself! Unless you’re like me.” She contemplated it for a while, and shrugged. “But I’m used to being alone, doesn’t bother me.”

Miyuki slowed down even more, worried about Seika’s well-known low endurance. There was no way she could run at the pace she usually did and expect a first-time runner (as she saw the other girl) to keep up with her. Besides, she rather enjoyed the conversation at this pace - it was sort of like a walk through the park for her, conversing casually. One look at the other girl’s face was enough to tell Miyuki that it clearly wasn't a casual stroll for her though. Miyuki laughed, and pointed at a vending machine up front, perhaps 100 metres or so from their position. “Race ya there! Beat me and I’ll buy you a drink!”
