Miyuchan spots Chieri!
“Well, considering that the successors are chosen based on their relative personalities compared to the originals…” Miyuki said thoughtfully. “…it’s almost certain that they would become very close if the originals were close too, right? Soul mates, huh…”
Miyuki continued to speak while walking towards the dining hall, although it was in a slightly airy manner as though she was thinking to herself.
Miyuki shrugged. “I heard enough through rumours and stuff, and I was part of the group of civilians who had to go underground when Akibastar was attacked…So I heard some of the girls gossiping about it too when I was there.” What she didn’t say was that she had ended up underground because she had been too scared to fight - scared to face the DES, with their guns that had killed her father and put her mother in a coma. Even though she had told herself her entire life that she would take revenge on them, she hadn’t even been able to move a muscle and had to be saved, crying and shivering, by a successor or a kenkyuusei - she couldn’t remember who. Somehow, she had ended up underground after that.
Miyuki stared out the window with Chieri for a while, then spoke hesitantly. “I’m sure…I’m sure Tsubasa-san will tell you if you’re going to be a new generation of original members. She’d tell you straight away, because I don’t think she’d want you to suffer like that. She wouldn’t want you to graduate feeling like that.”
They arrived at the dining hall, and Miyuki immediately went up to the counter where Chef Papa had already looked up and seen her. A flash of amusement seemed to cross his face as though he was already expecting what was coming next, and Miyuki grinned at him. “Heya! One of everything, please! Ah, actually…” Her stomach grumbled again. “…Make that three of everything!”
“I suppose you’re right,” Chieri mused. Chieri listened as Miyuki explained her story though she felt as though she wasn’t getting the full truth. Thats her choice though. We all have things we’d rather not say. She knew that better than anyone, thinking of not only her family, her company but also of how different of a person she used to be. As long as it doesn’t interfere with her work, theres nothing to worry about. She remembered Mayuyu confronting her and Kanata consoling her and smiled. At least she’ll have plenty of support if its needed.
“Thats true. Tsubasa may seem strict but she has our best interests in heart. She was one of us too, still is, in my opinion, so she knows the stress we face as well.” Smiling brightly, she added, “I think things will work out fine!”
Chieri laughed at Miyuki’s order. “Hey! Leave some for the rest of us!” She ordered her own, some rice and curry before grabbing a few pieces of fruit for later. Waiting for Chef Papa to plate it up, she made herself some tea.
“Yeah, but I feel like she adopted a bit of the original Mariko-sama’s sadistic side,” Miyuki grumbled, thinking about the trial that the 78th generation girls had to go through to get into 0048…The trial that had left her with several bruises that had hurt like crazy for days.
Miyuki was well on her way through her food already, having finished one serving already and halfway through her second. She went through with an almost animal-like ferocity, wolfing down the food like she would never eat again. Finishing her second serving before Chieri even got to the table, she pulled the third serving towards herself then looked up at Chieri, who appeared to be slightly amused. “What?” Miyuki said defensively. “I’m hungry!” She then proceeded to race through her last plate of food, and stood up immediately to get more.
