Miyuchan spots Chieri!
“Yup!” Miyuki said enthusiastically. “There’s been a few Rena successors, but never a Jurina one! I bet the Rena successors have felt a bit lonely without their counterparts…So I’m hoping there will be a Rena when I succeed Jurina!“
Miyuki looked at Chieri with a thoughtful expression on her face. “Your succession is pretty much guaranteed though, isn’t it? Being Center Nova and all, it would be weird if you didn’t succeed anyone…Unless…!” Miyuki’s eyes lit up. “You’re the first Chieri! The first original member since the actual original members! Maybe…Maybe that’s why Sensei-Sensei calls the 77th generation ‘NO NAME’? All of the girls there are meant to be a new group of original members, not meant to succeed anyone but to pave a path ahead for a brand new generation of successors…" Miyuki blinked, snapping out of her little reverie. “Although that theory is kinda off, considering that Nagisa succeeded Acchan!“ she said, shrugging.
Miyuki shook her head, laughing. “No way, no way! I think people can’t look directly at me because I’m always staring right at their face when I talk! I’ve been told before that it makes people uncomfortable, but that’s how my parents taught me how to do it!” She seemed slightly affected at the mention of her parents again, but quickly snapped out of it.
“Lunch! Yes!” Miyuki nodded enthusiastically, her stomach already pulling her towards the dining area, where she had already become a regular sight despite only having been a part of 0048 for a short time.
“I wonder about that sometimes. Atsumina, Yuiparu, Saeyaka and countless other members have been counted as pairs… I wonder if, when we succeed those members, we’re fated to be friends. Like soul mates, in a sense.” Chieri mused quietly herself, wondering how it was that most, if not all of those who succeeded certain names became best friends.
“Oh, so you heard that rumour, huh? And just what else do you know about Sensei-Sensei?” Even for most of the successors, Sensei-Sensei remained a mystery. Those who had gone underground during the attack of Akibastar had been sworn to secrecy, to keep 00’s secrets safe.
With a slightly teasing tone, Chieri said, “You forgot Mariko-san too!“ She looked out the window and pondered. “I do wonder what its supposed to mean though. Are we supposed to succeed a member? Or are we supposed to become original members? Wouldn’t that make us feel discouraged without knowing? I could train for six years and never succeed - if the rumour isn’t confirmed, I’d assume my soul isn’t ‘fit’ to succeed and I’d quit…”
She followed the older girl to the dining hall. “I wonder what we’re having for lunch today? I think Chef Papa said something about curry..“
"Well, considering that the successors are chosen based on their relative personalities compared to the originals…” Miyuki said thoughtfully. “…it’s almost certain that they would become very close if the originals were close too, right? Soul mates, huh…”
Miyuki continued to speak while walking towards the dining hall, although it was in a slightly airy manner as though she was thinking to herself.
Miyuki shrugged. “I heard enough through rumours and stuff, and I was part of the group of civilians who had to go underground when Akibastar was attacked…So I heard some of the girls gossiping about it too when I was there.” What she didn’t say was that she had ended up underground because she had been too scared to fight - scared to face the DES, with their guns that had killed her father and put her mother in a coma. Even though she had told herself her entire life that she would take revenge on them, she hadn’t even been able to move a muscle and had to be saved, crying and shivering, by a successor or a kenkyuusei - she couldn’t remember who. Somehow, she had ended up underground after that.
Miyuki stared out the window with Chieri for a while, then spoke hesitantly. “I’m sure…I’m sure Tsubasa-san will tell you if you’re going to be a new generation of original members. She’d tell you straight away, because I don’t think she’d want you to suffer like that. She wouldn’t want you to graduate feeling like that.”
They arrived at the dining hall, and Miyuki immediately went up to the counter where Chef Papa had already looked up and seen her. A flash of amusement seemed to cross his face as though he was already expecting what was coming next, and Miyuki grinned at him. “Heya! One of everything, please! Ah, actually…” Her stomach grumbled again. “…Make that three of everything!”
