Miyuchan spots Chieri!
“Perfect! The more we shine, the more all of 0048 shines…The more we illuminate the galaxy! I don’t just want my mum to wake up, I want to make everyone smile…and not in the shadows, like people have to do on entertainment ban planets. When people smile at our performances, I want them to be engulfed in our light, our radiance…Everyone, so noone will have to smile in the shadows anymore!” Miyuki said enthusiastically. “We’ll aim to be…no, we’re going to be the generation of 0048 who change the history of entertainment forever!“ With the end of her little speech, she was literally glowing so much with excitement, she was almost a human kirara.
Miyuki eagerly took Chieri’s hand, and shook it vigorously. “Of course! You have a head start on me, but I’ll make up that difference in no time!” Miyuki loved healthy competition - in her mind, contests brought out the best in everyone. The determination to win, the will to succeed…It was amazing. Chieri’s determination and will were well documented, and Miyuki was sure she would be a good person to go up against in her quest for the top.
Suddenly, something like a hazy shadow passed over Miyuki’s face, and her expression considerably darkened for a second. She whipped her hand up with lightning speed and swung it at Chieri’s face, then stopped about an inch off. The shadow passed, and she dropped her hand, sighing. “I can’t do it…There’s no way I can blame you for my father’s death, no matter how much I hate DES. You’ve already done too much for me, and you also lost your father…" She hit Chieri’s shoulder lightly instead, her smile back. “Let’s do our best.“
Chieri smiled, nodding as the older kenkyuusei spoke. Thats the passion we need in 00! “We’ll do it. I’m not worried about it at all - we’re driving out DES, bit by bit, and it won’t be long until the galaxy has nothing to fear again.”
Chieri laughed as the girl shook her hand. “If you say so! Just remember, while you’re catching up, I’ll still keep moving ahead!“ When she’d first joined 00, Chieri hadn’t had the time for those who refused to fight for the top. Now she knew it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but having a rival made her heart beat that little bit faster. No slacking off now!
The mood changed as the girl swung at her. Chieri merely closed her eyes. Dodging would be easy - she’d had martial arts lessons from when she was young, after all. But at the same time, she knew this was coming. Perhaps not from such a new girl, or a member of 00, but it was coming. She was the daughter of the man who produced weapons which crushed the dreams of the galaxy - well, it’s not just that, it’s my company now. I’m the president.
"While you may not want to blame me, you are more than free to blame DES and Zodiac Corporation, the latter of which is my responsibility.” Chieri looked saddened at the mention of her father. “Too many people have lost family members under the entertainment ban. It’s our job to fix it.“
Chieri remembered Kanata and how determined she was when they first met. Sonata, how she had lost not only her father, but her sister in a sense too. How they’d lost Yuuko, how she’d lost her father. They weren’t the first, and the wouldn’t be the last, but maybe, maybe they’d be able to be close to the last.
"Whatever paths we may have had, as members of 00, we need to work together. Whatever our reason is, the goal is to defeat DES.” Chieri extended her hand. “Are you with me?“
"Of course!” Miyuki said, grinning. “That’s what makes it fun! My goal is to narrow the gap, and eventually draw even with you, and then surpass you!” She winked at Chieri. “Don’t underestimate me just because I’m only a kenkyuusei at the moment either! There’s someone else who’s just a kenkyuusei but is currently the centre nova, and she’s standing right in front of me!”
Miyuki shook her head. “It wasn’t your responsibility, and now that I think about it, it wasn’t your father’s too. Just because Zodiac was producing weapons for DES, it doesn’t make them inherently evil. Producing weapons is does not make you good or bad - it’s the way that you use those weapons that does so. And even then in DES, there are people who have simply been misguided, forced to believe that 0048 are the bad ones.” She sighed. “But even knowing that…” Her eyes glinted. “Even knowing that, I’m going to crush DES. No matter how misguided they are, killing people is wrong.” There were many cases of relatives of 0048 being killed by DES, simply because of their association to 0048 or because they were trying to protect 0048. People like her own father, like Sonata and Kanata’s…And even Chieri’s. Even though it wasn’t well documented and probably only Chieri knew the truth, there were rumours that her father was about to accept her and 0048 just before he was killed by DES.
“I’m with ya!” Miyuki said, fist-bumping the extended hand accidentally, making the situation awkward for a second. "Of course we’ll be driving out DES, but…“ Miyuki said thoughtfully. "History is written by the victor. If we manage to drive out DES, we’ll be seen as saviours, the ones who brought entertainment back to a soulless galaxy. But…” She paused. “There’s always going to be the outliers. Just like how there are now people on entertainment-banned planets who want 0048, there will be others on entertainment-allowed planets who are against 0048. And I feel like that’s not going to change, no matter how much we drive out DES. They’ve had too much of an impact already to completely wipe them out of people’s minds.”
